JuicyBoy

JuicyBoy is a mycelial-like fountain that evolves over time, exploring themes of technological adaptation and interspecies kinship. Inspired by the life cycle of a futuristic, mycelial being, this work responds to its environment in real time, featuring transforming morphology as a metaphor for the relationship between our body and the world around us. As the fountain cycles dyed water over the porcelain form at its center, the porcelain absorbs the pigment, purifying the water in the process. This process is caused by the absorbent properties of bisque-fired porcelain, which over time reveals the interaction between the material and its surroundings. After three weeks of installation, the work transformed from white porcelain and now shows visible dye and natural salt deposits, reflecting its continuous transformation and the subtle, ongoing shifts in its environment.

JuicyBoy (week 2 of install), 2021, 20"×46"×49", Bisque fired porcelain, silicone, wood, dye, water pump, moss, and found natural objects
